Hard Light: First is a 100% crop from the second picture, using direct flash.
Notice the way the direct light details the imperfections of the egg surface (and does not wrap around).
A "rough-looking" egg was selected for these.
Soft Light: Next is a 100% crop from the first picture that used the wide umbrella at same distance.
Notice the way the soft light softens the shadow, wraps around the egg, and smooths the egg.
